
The Municipal Sports Games were created to meet the sporting needs of the school-age population and are aimed at comprehensive education and the development of personality, as well as achieving adequate physical condition.
The Municipal School Sports Programme, organised by the Orihuela City Council through the Sports Department, is an Intermunicipal Phase integrated into the Sports Games of the Valencian Community, which are organised by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport of the Generalitat Valenciana.
The philosophy and main objective of the Orihuela School Sports Programme are to promote sports practice and participation as a factor that improves health, while respecting the values of coexistence and equality, focusing on a more educational than competitive character, following the objectives established by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport for this programme.
The aim of these Games is to support and guarantee sports practice among children in schools as an alternative leisure activity and use of free time, as a healthy and habitual practice due to its psycho?physiological benefits and the values it provides, also contributing to the development and education of pupils, the prevention of childhood obesity, and therefore the improvement of quality of life, social well?being and personal development.
The Sports Department offers a wide range of sports disciplines in this programme, providing the pupils of our municipality with the opportunity to learn and practice various sports. The promotion and competition days of this programme will take place on Saturday mornings at the municipal sports facilities and the participating educational centres.
